Antique illustration of ornate capital letter A designed by Theodore de Bry (Belgian 16th century engraver, goldsmith, editor and publisher), from his "New Artistic alphabet" (1595). Around the letter vegetation and people: the scene is in a corner of Eden and there is a big apple tree and three naked people sitting on different parts of the letter A: Adam (with the apple in his hand), Eve and, on the top of the A, Adam's first wife, Lilith (represented like a sort of winged demon with zoomorph bottom part of the body: snake? owl?)
