Moriche palm trees La Gran Sabana via Salto Kae Chirimata. Palma moriche or moriche palm also known as Mauritia flexuosa is a tropical tree which can reach up to 10 m in height. The large leaves form a rounded crown and it is used by venezuelan indigenous people to build hut roofs all over the country. The flowers are yellowish, appear from December to April and the fruit is edible with chestnut color. The seeds float, and this is the means by which the palm tree propagates. In natural populations the tree reaches very high densities. Morichal palms are located all over La Gran Sabana and Los Llanos in Venezuela
